This guide has been updated for Summer 2026.
Every summer, I start from scratch because fashion moves fast. The best pieces sell out, retailers discontinue styles, and there’s nothing more frustrating than falling in love with something that’s gone by the next season.
So no—this isn’t last year’s guide with a new date slapped on it. Every recommendation has been researched, re-selected, and updated for Summer 2026.
Then I did what I always do—I disappeared down the online shopping rabbit hole…all for you and our Trend-Able community, of course. 😉 While my husband is still unconvinced this qualifies as “work,” my best friends at the UPS Store (a.k.a. the
Amazon return crew who see me more than some of my actual friends) would strongly disagree. 🤣
After hours of scrolling, comparing, and adding way too many things to my own cart, I narrowed it down to pieces that are stylish, affordable, and actually work for women who wear AFOs, have hand weakness, limited dexterity, or simply want getting dressed to be easier.
The best part? Summer 2026 is full of what I like to call accidentally adaptive fashion. These aren’t clothes labeled “adaptive”—they’re just easy to pull on, comfortable to wear, and effortlessly stylish.
You’ll find pull-on waistbands, stretchy fabrics, breezy silhouettes, matching sets, over-the-head maxi dresses, and one-and-done outfits that make summer dressing ridiculously easy.
Summer is also about staying cool between the heat, humidity, and, if you’re like me, the added joy of menopause hot flashes; things can go from comfortable to miserable
real fast. Btw, if staying cool is a struggle for you too, be sure to check out my cooling tips post where I share unique products that actually help me survive the heat.
Everything here is something I’d genuinely wear myself—or already do. Think linen pants that don’t look like pajamas, effortless dresses, matching sets that feel like
loungewear but look expensive, and easy pieces you’ll reach for all summer long.
Bonus: I’m publishing this a little later than planned, which means many of these finds are already on sale. You’re welcome. 😉
So, whether you’re headed to the beach, brunch, traveling, dinner with friends, or just trying to survive a sweaty Target run while looking somewhat pulled together, I’ve got you covered.

Linen pants in the summer? Absolutely.
They’re lightweight, breezy, and somehow make you look effortlessly put together—even if you got dressed in under five minutes. And if you wear AFOs or have fussy fingers, pull-on waistbands and roomy legs make getting dressed so much easier.
Here are 5 of my favorite pairs of lightweight pants for Summer 2026 that are stylish, comfortable, and friendly to your hands, AFOs, and wallet.
These are for my “coastal grandma meets artsy boutique” friends. They’re relaxed without looking sloppy, ridiculously comfortable, and wide enough to skim right over AFOs. The loose fit is also great if your legs swell during the day—or you simply don’t enjoy feeling squeezed. They’re more of an investment, but they’re the kind of pants you’ll reach for repeatedly. Bonus: They somehow make a plain white T-shirt look intentional.
These are polished enough for lunch with friends but comfortable enough to wear all day. The pull-on waistband eliminates annoying buttons and zippers, while the relaxed, wide legs leave plenty of room for AFOs without looking bulky. Wear them casually with a tank and sneakers or dress them up with a breezy blouse and sandals.
These are a great budget-friendly option that doesn’t look cheap. The soft, elastic waistband is easy on your hands, and the flowy, wide legs fit comfortably over AFOs.
They also come in lots of colors, so don’t be surprised if one pair turns into three. At this price, I fully support that decision.
Quince always impresses me with its quality for the price, and these are no exception. They’re made from lightweight European linen with an easy pull-on waistband and roomy legs that work beautifully over braces. The simple, timeless style also means
you’ll wear them long after this summer’s trends disappear.
These are the definition of easy, effortless summer style. The high-rise pull-on waist is flattering and simple to manage, while the extra-wide legs drape beautifully over AFOs without clinging or bunching. The linen-blend fabric feels light and breathable, and they usually come in several great colors. Fair warning: You may want more than one pair. I
wouldn’t judge. 😉
These deliver that effortless “cool girl summer” look while still being genuinely comfortable. The breezy linen-cotton fabric and flowy legs provide plenty of space for AFOs, and the easy fit transitions nicely from daytime errands to dinner out. Pair them with a simple tee and sneakers, or add a cute tank and sandals when you want the pants to stand out. They come in several patterns.
Next up: Maxi Dresses & Skirts that swirl, twirl, and just happen to camouflage AFOs while keeping you cool and comfortable all summer long.
Is there anything more “summer” than a good maxi dress or skirt? They’re basically the fashion version of a cold drink on a hot day—cool, comfortable, and instantly refreshing. No zippers to battle, no tight waistbands to negotiate, and best of all? You can rock your AFOs underneath without anyone noticing (unless you want them to, of course).
These pieces are perfect for when you want to feel a little more put-together but still need the flexibility and comfort that works for your body. Whether you’re headed to a patio brunch or just want to feel cute running errands, these styles have you covered—literally.
Let’s twirl into some of my faves for Summer 2026.
This is one of those easy dresses that makes you look polished with almost no effort. The soft, stretchy jersey slips on over your head, while the side tie (you can slip on and leave tied) creates shape without a zipper, buttons, or a complicated true-wrap design. The long, flowy skirt can comfortably skim over AFOs, and the higher neckline gives you enough coverage to wear a regular bra. Add flat sandals and a few accessories, and you’re ready for brunch, vacation, or dinner out.
This Amazon find is equal parts charming and functional. This inexpensive but super cute dress gives picnic-in-the-park energy with its breezy silhouette and bold gingham pattern. It has a smocked bodice that stretches easily (yay for no zippers!) and wide
shoulder straps that work with most bras.
This dress is also super lightweight and long enough to wear with AFOs without them stealing the spotlight. Bonus: it comes in several color combos, so you might just be tempted to grab more than one.
This is one of those dresses that looks beautifully put together but is surprisingly easy to wear. The stretchy smocked waist gives you shape without feeling tight, and the flowing tiered skirt leaves plenty of room for AFOs, leg braces, swelling, or simply moving comfortably throughout the day. It also pulls on without any complicated buttons or back zippers and, possibly the best part, has pockets.
The Somerset comes in standard, petite, and plus sizes, which makes it a much more inclusive option than many of the pretty maxi dresses out there. It’s definitely an investment, but the kind you can wear with flat sandals for lunch, sneakers for sightseeing, or dressier shoes for a summer wedding.
This is such an easy summer piece because it gives you the look of a dress while letting you choose whatever top feels most comfortable. The stretchy pull-on waistband means no buttons, hooks, or zippers, and the long, flowy shape leaves plenty of room for AFOs, leg braces, swelling, or limited mobility.
This maxi skirt comes in a ton of different colors and patterns on Amazon, so there’s something for almost every style. Pair it with a simple tank and flat sandals for an
effortless boho look, or add a denim jacket when it gets cooler. It’s affordable, comfortable, disability-friendly, and easy to dress up or down.
One of my favorite fashion discoveries over the past few years has to be matching sets.
Seriously, where have they been all my life?
They make getting dressed almost effortless because someone else has already done the hard part for you. No standing in front of your closet holding up five different tops and wondering whether any of them actually work with your pants.
The challenge, of course, is finding sets without tiny buttons, awkward back zippers, or narrow pant legs that won’t fit comfortably over AFOs.
Thankfully, there are far more stylish, disability-friendly options available now. These are the matching sets I’d actually recommend—and wear myself.
If you’ve spent any time on Instagram lately, you’ve probably seen this set.
The asymmetrical sleeveless top gives it a more stylish, elevated look, while the pull-on pants keep it comfortable and easy to manage. There are no tiny buttons, hooks, or complicated zippers to deal with.
The wide, flowy pant legs should fit comfortably over AFOs or leg braces without looking bulky. I also love that you can wear the pieces together for an instantly coordinated outfit or mix them with other basics already in your closet. Add flat sandals and a cute bag, and you’re done.
This matching set looks polished without feeling too serious. The cropped cami and flowy wide-leg pants have a modern neutral print that feels summery, artsy, and a little unexpected. The roomy pant legs should work well over AFOs, and I love that you can wear the pieces together or mix them with basics already in your closet. Pair the pants with a simple black or cream tank for more coverage, or wear the top with high-waisted jeans or linen pants.
Okay…this is my “treat yourself” recommendation.
If comfort had a luxury version, this would probably be it.
The fabric is unbelievably soft, the pants pull right on, and the entire outfit feels polished without trying too hard.
It’s perfect for travel because it’s comfortable enough for the plane but nice enough to wear straight to lunch when you land.
If you’re new here, let me save you about 47 hours of Googling. Finding cute sandals that actually work with AFOs is…not easy.
That’s exactly why I update my AFO-Friendly Sandals Guide every single year. Inside you’ll find sandals with:
✔ Removable footbeds
✔ Adjustable straps
✔ Wide openings
✔ Stable soles
✔ Styles that actually work with braces without looking orthopedic
If you are looking for other shoe options to fit AFOs, you can shop the entire
AFO-friendly shoe collection on LTK here. You can also find some in our Amazon Store.
If you wear plastic-style leg braces, be sure to read the descriptions of each shoe style I’ve recommended and look for ones with “removable insoles” and “removable footbeds” in extra-wide sizes. If you wear slim, carbon-fiber-style AFOs as I do, many of the shoe styles in our collection will likely work.
It’s a lot of trial and error—and returns—but when you find ones that work, it’s the best feeling ever!
Let’s be honest—no outfit is truly complete without a little sparkle.
But when you have fine motor challenges, finding the right jewelry can feel like digging through a clearance bin labeled “not for you.”
Because accessories should add to your outfit—not take away your independence. The good news? I’ve already done the digging.
Here are two accessible accessory options that are perfect to pair with your summer outfits:
Magnetic Clasp Necklaces:
These are a total game changer. No more struggling behind your neck trying to hook a tiny clasp or asking someone else for help. You just bring the ends together and they snap into place. 👉Shop Magnetic Clasp Necklaces
Stretchy Bracelets:
No clasps, no fiddling, no frustration—just slip them on and go. They still look polished and put-together without requiring fine motor skills. 👉 Shop Stretch Bracelets
💬 Final Thoughts
I’ve lived with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease long enough to know that getting dressed isn’t always as simple as people think.
Sometimes it’s the zipper.Sometimes it’s the tiny buttons.Sometimes it’s finding shoes that actually work with AFOs.And sometimes it’s just not having the patience or energy to fight with your clothes.
That’s exactly why I update this guide every year.
Not because any of us need more clothes, but because we deserve clothes that work with our bodies instead of against them.
Summer style should feel fun—not frustrating. It should include pull-on everything, easy layers, maxi dresses that actually cover your braces, and accessories that don’t make you curse tiny clasps.
So wear the linen pants. Buy the matching set. Live in the maxi dress. Skip the impossible zipper. And never apologize for choosing comfort, function, or independence.
There is absolutely nothing unfashionable about wearing clothes that make your life easier.
Because confidence has never come from a zipper—and style is personal, so you get to make the rules.
Happy summer styling, my Perfectly Imperfect Friends!☀💛
